About Drama Centre


Located in the National Library Building, Drama Centre is part of the bustling synergy made up of the surrounding arts facilities, attractions, educational institutions and commercial entities. With a 615-seat proscenium theatre and a 120-seat black box, VIP lounge and function rooms, the performing arts space caters well to mid-sized theatrical productions, as well as talks and exhibitions.

Drama Centre was the key platform for local companies starting out in the early 1980s, staging Singapore plays like Lao JiuArmy Daze and Mail Order Brides.

Our Story

Drama Centre was based at Fort Canning Park and was where many pioneering local theatre companies began in the early 1980s, staging Singaporean classics such as Lao Jiu, Army Daze and Mail Order Brides. drama-centre-old-building
Today, Drama Centre is located at the heart of the culturally vibrant Bras-Bugis district within the compounds of the National Library building, enjoying a synergistic adjacency to arts facilities, tourist attractions, cultural institutions and bustling commercial centres.

Drama Centre has bloomed from its humble beginnings into one of Singapore’s prime performing arts spaces. The centre now offers a wide range of spaces which comprises of its 615-seat proscenium theatre, a 120-seater black box, as well as spacious function rooms and a VIP lounge. These spaces not only cater to the diverse forms of contemporary arts events, but have also been transformed for multi-disciplinary and multi-purpose gatherings & events.
