Association of Singapore Tamil Writers operates effectively since 1976 and contributes to Singapore Tamil literature. The association is focused to nurture young talents to improve their Tamil language skill. The association currently conducts 4 major annual events every year, opening various contests to students to instil and sustain their interest in Tamil Language, namely Muththamizh Vizha, Kamban Vizha, Mu. Ku. Ramachandra Book Prize and Kannadasan Vizha. Talented personalities are awarded with Tamilavel award and Kannadasan award for their contribution to Tamil language. A book prize is presented to an author in different genres.

The association also conducts book launches, other events and workshops in Tamil to encourage students to excel in their mother tongue. Kathaikalam monthly event is designed to promote creative writing skills among students and public, with a passion to write.
