Books are wonderfully malleable things. Just when you think you've grasped them, one conversation, one reader's love for a single paragraph, can open up a whole new realm of meaning. Wow. I never thought about it like that. The BooksActually book club started as a way for us to experience books in a new way: as more than a way to access our private experiences, but to fill a gap in our shared, cultural understanding. All you need is a keen interest; there's no need to have read it. Join us for an expansive discussion, as we search for new possibilities of meaning and connection: I've been waiting years for someone to write this. And: I know exactly what you mean.
Author bio:
Imran Hashim fell in love with France a little late in life (in his teens) but made up for it by studying French with a vengeance at the National University of Singapore, and then winning a French Government Scholarship for his postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne and Sciences Po Paris. Apart from providing the inspiration for his first novel, his time in Paris prepared him for jobs with an international focus, and he is currently working for a British university.

Akar: Roots Words
15 March 2020 | 4.30PM TO 5.30PM
Free Admission - register at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
In this interactive session, explore humanity's roots and seek ways to restore childhood memories of Singapore with AKAR. Relive those days and share them through haikus, poems and drawings. These feelings and experiences will live on in the next issue of AKAR. How will you express your roots in words?
