Yeng Pway Ngon (1947-2021) has long been known to be a master of words, as he stood tall as one of the most critically-acclaimed Modernist poets and novelists in Singapore. Lesser known was his deep deliberation in art, which was a life-long hobby that occupied most of his time since young, and while he was not writing. Painting, to Yeng, is another of his route and pursuit to aesthetic beauty and artistic truth. This unique postmortem exhibition shows, for the first time, Yeng's highly engaging experiment of figure painting with oil, charcoal and pencil, juxtaposed with texts from some of his best poems and novels.
