There are many heirlooms in the Malay community such as fabrics, utensils, weapons, and more. However, in this Kita Ada… series, our focus is on the Genderang. As physical objects unique to the Malay community, families with heirlooms can appreciate the distinctive characteristics of these heirlooms, which are best described in the Malay language. For example, Percussion Instruments such as the Rebana Asli has components like Bingkai, Belulang, Pasak, and more.

This session of Kita Ada… Genderang features Idham Taal, the owner of Genbano. Idham will provide an introduction to the Genderang Melayu and discuss its adaptation to modernity through improvisation. Participants can also look forward to learning the basics of playing the Genderang.
