Me, You, Then, Now is a self-portrait in movement, video, and words: a performative archive. The artist Muna Tseng searches for herself across over four decades of an illustrious career in New York City, having worked at the fluid intersections of contemporary dance, visual design, new music and avant-garde theatre.
In Me, You, Then, Now, we are invited to join her on a retrospective journey, from her days of being a young artist weaving her web of identity within the urban mythology of downtown NYC, through to the present with her meta-meditations on making new art today. Acclaimed for her exquisite dancing, Muna is joined by her stunning visual design team of downtown NYC fame in this world premiere for SIFA 2023.
This is the fourth instalment of Muna Tseng’s Family Portraits series, comprising poignant cross-cultural inventive works, beginning with performance portraits of her brother, her mother, and her paternal grandfather, reflecting on their experiences as part of the Chinese diaspora. This fourth and new portrait is Muna telling her own story, as a distinguished mature woman artist in the 70th year of her life.
There will be a post-show talk with Muna Tseng after Saturday evening’s performance.
There will be a workshop with Muna Tseng and Irene Hultman on 23 May, click here to sign up.
